- Flight with British Airways via London Heathrow to Vancouver
- Watch NHL match in local bar
After making all sorts of visits and preparations in the last week, things are now finally serious. I will especially remember the visit to my grandparents and the meal with my colleague on Saturday. Saying goodbye is not easy, but I have to go through it. After all, I want to take advantage of the unique opportunity after graduating last summer and doing community service.
Oli and Niki accompany me to Zurich Airport. There I have to say goodbye to Niki with a heavy heart, she will meet me in Vancouver in just under four months. After the usual check-in procedure, the British Airways aircraft takes off for London Heathrow with a good half an hour delay. After a chaotic change and another security check, we reach our transatlantic flight. The jumbo jet flies directly to Vancouver via Greenland, where - thanks to the time difference - we land only an hour later. We arrived in Canada at seven o'clock in the evening. We are pleasantly surprised by the warm temperatures of over 20 degrees. We take a taxi to the HI Hostel Central on Granville Street. It's the same hostel that I stayed in on my stopover four years ago after the Yukon-Alaska tour. Back then, together with Reto Gyger and my brother, we experienced unforgettable scenes =)
Despite the growing tiredness, we still visit a bar, watch a game of the NHL playoffs on TV and treat ourselves to a Molson Canadien. Then we hop into bed.
