Kayak Adventure on Clearwater Lake

  • Survived the frosty night in the roof tent =)
  • full day kayak tour on the crystal clear Clearwater Lake in Wells Gray Provincial Park
  • Heard wolf howl

We made the first night in the roof tent mediocre behind us. Sure, you sleep better in a real bed, but the bigger problem tonight was the cold. The temperature drops towards freezing point. I pull my cap over my face and curl up deep in my sleeping bag. Around 7 a.m. I get up and write a diary. Oli dozes a little before we have breakfast. The weather is better than announced, although there are more clouds in the sky today than the day before and it is still very cold. Nevertheless we decide to do the kayak tour planned for today on the lake.

Since the season has just started here, the double kayak has to be brought to the dock first, which delays our start a bit. When we can get started, we first have to pack our things, get in and find out how we can get on the fastest. Paddling turns out to be a sweaty show of strength, but it's definitely worth the effort. We are all alone on the crystal clear lake and enjoy the wonderful panorama, the tranquility and the weather that is getting better and better. We even hear the howl of a wolf clearly and distinctly. After about 2.5 hours of paddling across the lake, we dock in Stellars Bay, where we eat. On the way back on the other side of the lake we can see a waterfall up close. Exhausted but happy, we reach the starting point and drive back to camp in Wells Gray Provincial Park.

This time we are not lucky on the evening trip and we don't see any more bears.
We buy firewood and use it to grill our steak. Off to the Heia!
