- Drive through the southern Okanagan Valley to Spotted Lake
- USA entry into Washington state
- Just missed the sunset on the Steptoe Butt
We leave Sommerland and the Okanagan Valley in a southerly direction. The area is not typically Canadian, it is warm and dry. The Okanagan Valley is known for its viticulture and lakes. After a detour to Spotted Lake with its countless small circular pools, we drive east along the US border to Grand Forke.
The landscape becomes lonely, mountainous and increasingly wooded, unfortunately there are always small downpours. Then we reach the impressive Cascade Falls of the Kettle River. The rain and meltwater made the river soar into a raging torrent.
Soon after we arrive at the US border station. After the usual, arduous entry procedure into the USA, we continue our journey south through the US state Washington. It goes through the lonely wooded mountain valley of the Kettle River until we reach the huge Columbia River.
In the evening we finally arrive in the little worth seeing city of Spokane. We decide to continue the journey to Steptoe Butte, despite the hour already being advanced. The lonely hill rises high above the surrounding landscape and is an excellent vantage point. But we can no longer catch a lot of sunlight. Well tired and exhausted, we hope to find accommodation nearby as soon as possible. In the small town of Colfax, a little further south, we find what we are looking for in the Siesta Motel.
