- Hiking in the dry and dusty Kodachrome Basin
- Excursion to the Escalante Petrified Forest and the reservoir there
Since I have to go to the toilet at night, I take the opportunity to take some long exposures of the starry sky and the Milky Way. Then you sleep in until almost 10 a.m. We drive east and after about an hour we reach the small Kodachrome State Park. For 19 US dollars we are looking for a campground right away. Then we get ready for hiking. We explore the hilly terrain on the Panorama Trail. The path leads past some freestanding hoodoos and through the dust-dry landscape. After an involuntary detour, we still reach Panorama Point. We take a break to relax and drink and enjoy the view.
Since we are already back from the hike at 3 a.m., we decide at short notice to drive to Escalante and the Petrified Forest there. We refuel and buy a cool drink before we go on a short hike there as well. The path leads past various fossilized remains of trees from the time of the dinosaurs. Some specimens are brightly colored and the structure of the wood is still visible. Finally a lake again, we won't miss it and bathe our tired legs in the cool water. Now we go back to Kodachrome Campground, where we prepare showers and dinner. Another eventful day is coming to an end.
