Through the Valley of Fire

  • Detour through the impressive Valley of Fire
  • Arrival in crazy Las Vegas

We sleep a little longer again and take it comfortably afterwards. We leave at around 10.30 a.m. It goes back to La Verkin and on via Hurricane. After we have arrived on the Interstate from Utah to Arizona and finally in Nevada, we make a detour to the Valley of Fire State Park.

The rock formations of the valley are once again extremely diverse. The only downer is the extreme heat of 40 degrees, which makes even medium hikes impossible. In the Visitors Center, geology, history, flora and fauna are brought closer to the visitor. Fascinating what can survive in the - at first glance totally hostile to life - landscape. We have to break off a short circular hike at Rainbow Vista, the path is too poorly signposted. And looking for a way in these temperatures is no fun and quickly becomes dangerous. The subsequent short hike to the fantastic Fire Wave is worth the numerous drops of sweat. Another spectacle of nature these red and white rock layers. Another stop at the Visitors Center including a cool drink later, we continue the journey to Las Vegas.

The streets are getting wider, the traffic is increasing. In the middle of this wasteland, the mighty skyline of the gambling metropolis appears. After a short search we find our hotel, the Tuscany Suites. It's conveniently located and good value for money. We will stay here for the next four nights. Oli watches the triumph of the LA Kings against the NY Rangers, who win the Stanley Cup for the second time. After winning the double overtime, we march the good kilometer to Las Vegas Boulevard, also known as the Stip. It is warm 24 degrees at night and the streets are full of people, after all, the weekend is starting. After Mexican food including the accompanying margaritas, we visit other well-frequented bars and march through the countless gambing areas. A really crazy place because you have to see it. At around 4 a.m. I go to bed.
