Hustle and bustle at the jewel Lake Louise

  • Return to Lake Louise
  • Breakfast stop at Bow Lake
  • Hike along the most visited mountain lake in the world and up to the Pass of Six Glaciers

The next splendid day is coming up. We start something before 8 a.m. In a southerly direction we take the Icefield Parkway back to Lake Louise. At Bow Lake we have a breakfast stop at the rest area on the lake. It's wonderful how the magnificent mountain range with its snow and ice-covered peaks is reflected in the various lakes along the way.

After a shopping stop in town, we secure a cozy place for tents at the Lake Louise campsite. Since this is in an area frequented by bears, it is surrounded by a high-voltage fence. Then we continue up to the world-famous mountain lake. This is where the search for a parking space begins. Incredible, even though there is an enormous parking space during the week, everything is full! Fortunately, we will soon find what we are looking for a little below the parking lot and throw ourselves into the turmoil. The Fairmont Hotel is teeming with tourists. Especially with Asians, the really grandiose turquoise colored lake seems to be the hit. You even have to queue for the horrendously expensive canoe rental.

As soon as you walk along the lakeshore, the hype decreases significantly. When the trail at the end of the lake is a little flooded by the stream and then slowly rises, the trail is no longer overpopulated. The path continues upwards in loops until we can cast an impressive view of the mountains and glaciers at the end of the valley. Despite the other almost 30 degrees there is a cold wind behind here. In any case, we are happy to be able to put the sweater we brought with us over the totally sweaty T-shirts. On the way back we will stop for refreshments. After a good 15 kilometers we are back at the parked car.

We drive back to the campground and have a cozy evening. All kinds of leftovers are combined on the fire to make a pasta gratin. Otherwise we'll spend the evening writing cards.
