- Drive to Jasper in the rain
- Stopover in Jasper
- Continue through Mount Robson Provincial Park
- Mount Robson obscured by clouds
- Camping at Scarecrow Farm near McBride
I wake up in the rain. The clouds are low in the valley and the visibility is not very promising. In any case, there is not much to be seen of the Columbia Icefield with this view. Incidentally, the huge ice mass has a strong influence on the local climate. That's why I drive straight through to Jasper without any major stops. There I go looking for a fast WIFI. Because I still have to download an update so that the pictures from my new camera can also be read by the computer. With the third address it finally works. I also use this opportunity to update my blog.
It is still rainy. So I cancel the planned excursion to the picturesque Maligne Lake, which simply makes no sense in this weather. So I drive on the Yellowhead Highway in a westerly direction towards Prince George. With the border of Jasper National Park I'm back in British Columbia and the Mount Robson Provincial Park immediately following. The summit of the highest mountain of the same name in the Canadian Rockies is unfortunately not visible just like the animals of the region.
Now and then the sun even shines through. Waiting times have to be endured again and again as the road is being repaired. How lonely the area is can be read from the signs on the roadside, such as Caution Wildlife Corridor - next 185 km or check your fuel - next service 202 km. I decide to continue to McBride. There I discover a nice private campground on the Scarecrow Farm on the roadside. I grill a delicious skewer on the fire before I go jogging and then use the shower in the house.
