After 17,223 km in Whitehorse and ready for the next stage

  • Pancakes for breakfast
  • Jogging lap
  • Another black bear sighting right on the Alaska Highway
  • Relax in the city park of Whitehorse right on the Yukon
  • Pick up Chrigu and Mänu at the airport

So, this evening Mannu and Chrigu will land in Whitehorse. I only have a little over 2 hours left to drive, so I'm in no rush. Because of the noise from the neighboring campers, sleeping in is unfortunately not an option. So I cook pancakes comfortably on the gas stove at 8 a.m. Then I use the WiFi, update the blog and find out about news from all over the world. It's only slightly cloudy and unusually warm. That's why I decide to jog a bit and then take a shower.

Then I drive the last few kilometers on the Alaska Highway to Whitehorse. Similar to yesterday, the route leads through beautiful wilderness with many lakes, forests and rivers. Of course, the almost obligatory black bear sighting is not missing either. I stop at the bakery at Johnston Crossing and want to try the world's best cinnamon buns, according to the tourism brochure. Unfortunately they are already sold out, which is why I have to be satisfied with a moderate scone.

Soon after, I'll be in the suburbs of Whitehorse, if you can say that. It's actually just scattered RV campgrounds and workshops. I stop at the Caribou RV Park and ask about the possibility of parking my car here for the next three weeks, which will cost me $ 30. Now I'm driving into the center of the capital of the Yukon. The SS Klondike is right at the entrance along the Yukon, which is already here on the upper reaches of the mighty river. A paddle steamer built in 1937 that is now a National Historic Site. In the cozy park next door I lie down in the sun and read the information material I have received. Then I look for a nearby RV site with a laundromat. I am given a not very nice, but practical and free space at the Mountain Ridge RV because I am only in the tent. Now I use the leftover food and the dirty laundry is washed. So that I am ready for the next three weeks. I enjoy the endless evening sun in the camping chair and wait until just before 10 a.m. Then I drive to the airport to pick up the two newcomers. The two of them are understandably totally tired after the long day. So I bring her to her hotel and drive back to the campground.
