The grandiose Tombstone Provincial Park

  • Bobcat observed on the street
  • Continue on the Klondike Highway towards Dawson City
  • Detour on the Dempster Highway to Tombstone Provincial Park
  • made two smaller evening hikes

We wake up at 9 a.m. and have breakfast outside with a wonderful view of the lake. The clouds are clearing more and more and we have another glorious day ahead of us. But first of all we have to master the approach back to the main road. The narrow gravel road now leads almost 50 kilometers along two lakes through the dense forest. Suddenly we see a brown cat crossing the street far ahead. We stop and wait a moment. And not for the first time that brings luck. The pointed brush ears and the stubby tail make it clear that it is a bobcat. Certainly not being able to observe this extremely shy cat every day. Soon after, we turn back onto the Klondike Highway and continue north. The road has many bumps, which are quite treacherous with the pickup and the living compartment on top. Otherwise, the thick bush does not allow many glances. Unfortunately, we don't see any more animals. After the hamlet of Steward Crossing we reach the Klondike River. The road now leads a wonderful section along the river.

Then we already reach the junction on the Dempster Highway. This leads on 740 extremely lonely kilometers up to Inuvik on the Arctic Ocean. A route that would really appeal to me for the later trip. Since we only have three weeks together, we only drive the first part into Tombstone Provincial Park. The road climbs up to 1200 meters above sea level. As far north the tree line is even lower here and the tundra begins with its bushes and mosses. We hike along the Goldensides Trail. The clouds that are now emerging move quickly into the country and cause a thunderstorm and make us turn back. Then we go down to the campground and make hamburgers ourselves. It is now 11 o'clock, but outside it is still light. So we go on an evening hike along the stream further into the valley. Back in the camper, it's time to go to bed.
