Also this morning we wake up in the rain. After the usual breakfast we drive south. Clouds, fog and mostly light fog worsen the view and we still don't see any animals. At the Tok intersection, which has little more than the necessary supply infrastructure, we stock up on information and diesel. It's crazy what our monstrous vehicle consumes in terms of fuel. We are making better progress on the much better developed Alaska Highway. Several times we cross huge rivers and yet all of them only tributaries of the Yukon. Finally, not far from the road, at a rest stop, a big bull elk can be seen. We take some pictures from a safe distance and enjoy the moment. Otherwise, the drive to Delta Junction, the end point of the Alaska Highway, is relatively uneventful. In Delta Junction, another junction kaff, in which 1400 people are supposed to live, we fill up again, empty our gray water tank and stock up on food supplies. Gradually the weather is getting a little better, at least the dry sections now predominate and visibility is getting a little better. But it is very cold around 7-10 degrees. The Richardson Highway towards Paxson now leads us through the valleys of the Alaska Range mountain range. Occasional approaches of glaciers, peaks and remnants of snow can be seen while the road mostly leads along a river. Right on the roadside we can now watch three more elks from the car. Two even cross the street directly in front of us. These sightings are somewhat of a compensation for yesterday's day without a single one. It's time to look for a campground for the night.
We'll find it at Fielding Lake, where I stayed 5 years ago. At that time we were able to observe two moose up close early in the morning. We collect waste wood on the entire site, as unfortunately there is nothing left to buy. Then we make a delicious stew with potatoes, minced meat, cauliflower, carrots, pepperoni, onions. After this culinary delight, we have another beer outside in the gradually emerging evening sun and take a photo tour of the lake. Then it's definitely time to get back into the camper.
