Another stage comes to an end: back in Whitehorse

  • Manu and Chrigu say goodbye
  • Make purchases for onward travel
  • Have the car checked
  • Drive towards Haines Junction

So today the next stage of my journey has already ended. From now on I will be traveling alone for almost a month. I am still not entirely sure what my route will look like. The only thing that is certain is that I have to be in Vancouver by August 7th to pick up Niki. In the meantime I would like - if possible - to drive the Dempster Highway to Inuvik, visit the Inside Passage with side trips to Haines, Juneau, Glacier Bay National Park and again Hyder. We empty the refrigerator and go through everything carefully. Then we can return the camper to Fraserway, which can be done without any problems. The growling stomach is now appeased in Cafe Burnt Toast. Then we go to a sporting goods store.

Then it's time to drive them to the airport. Once again, parting is not easy. Chrigu and Mänu now have a stopover in Vancouver at the end of their vacation. For me that means that I will now be driving again in my smaller and simpler car. No more fixed roof over your head, no kitchen, no hot water at the push of a button, no shower and toilet on board and a lot of other comfort is lost. But that's okay, after all, that's exactly what camping is all about.

I drive to the tire dealer and ask about the condition of my tires and whether they are still good for the Dempster Highway. After the positive feedback I have the tire pressure checked and drive to the superstore to do another big purchase. Since there is still a lot of salmon and a pack of minced meat left, I only buy fruit, vegetables and long-life goods. At the Visitors Center, I go through my planning again and find out more. I come to the conclusion that it is currently a little too early for the Dempster Highway. I would like to experience the northernmost road in Canada, which leads beyond the Arctic Circle, in full autumn colors. That's why I decide to go southwest towards Haines for the time being. I drive on the ALCAN towards Haines Junction. After a two-hour drive, I turn onto Pine Lake Campground. Here I enjoy the wonderful and warm summer evening. There are - well what? - Salmon and quinoa drop leftovers. Finally, I march along the lakeshore and take some photos.
