- Ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay over to Vancouver Island
- Refuel and shop in Nanaimo
- Black bear spotted next to the road
- Drive via Port Alberni to Ucluclet
- Camping in the remote, wild and romantic Mussel Beach Campground
We pack our things and load everything into the car. After a short breakfast shopping in the stunning assortment of Whole Foods Market, we drive to the ferry terminal at Horseshoe Bay. There we buy a ticket for the 88$ for the crossing to Nanaimo. In bright, beautiful sunshine but strong winds, we now cross over to Vancouver Island. I use the almost two hours to update the diary and sort the pictures from the last few days.
In Nanaimo we are now stocking up on our supplies before we head towards the west coast via Port Alberni. Here we want to visit the Pacific Rim National Park in the next few days. In the vicinity of Port Alberni we briefly see a black bear marching through the front gardens of a few houses. When we finally arrive near our destination, it is already getting dark. We let a sign lead us to the rather remote Mussel Beach Campground. In any case, the approach is rocky and long, but the place is wonderfully located but easy. We just get to see the last rays of sunshine of the day and I quickly warm myself up leftovers because Niki doesn't feel like eating. Sometimes we see her master her first night in a tent.
