Midnight shopping

  • Ferry trip over to the USA to Port Angeles
  • Petty customs officer confiscates vegetables
  • Shopping in the Safeway
  • Dinner at subways
  • Midnight shopping tour through gigantic Walmart

This morning we take it easy, use the shower and the internet. Then we say goodbye to the headstrong Zoe, who is still in bed. We drive to the ferry terminal right in the center of Victoria's Inner Harbor. After buying a ticket for the crossing to Port Angeles, you have to wait. Ninety minutes before departure, the astonishingly quick entry procedure into the United States follows. At 3 p.m. we can load the car into the hull of the MV Coho. In the port of Victoria there is once again a huge cruise ship. The journey when the sky is overcast is uneventful.

Entry only becomes difficult on US soil. A petty customs officer searches the whole car and confiscates some fruits, vegetables and the firewood without explanation. We drive to Safeway and do a bulk purchase. Since it's already late after that and we both don't feel like cooking, we eat a subway sandwich. While looking for a campground, we came across a huge Walmart. Since Niki has never seen or experienced one like this, we dive into the shopping mecca. Again and again an experience this enormous selection, the gigantic packs and the typical American products. This fact is particularly noticeable when comparing the prices between a 3dl iced tea and the adjacent 4l canister, which have only slight price differences. It is almost midnight when we leave the shop. At the next RV park we find somewhere to stay for the night.
