Rough west coast of Olympic National Park

  • Hike on misty Rialto Beach
  • Stopover at Twilight Town Forks
  • Continue to the Hoh Rain Forest

Contrary to the original forecast, the sky is cloudy this morning, so let's take it easy. After breakfast, Niki's colleague Amanda calls via Skype and we chat for a while. After washing up and showering, we finally set off to the mist-shrouded Rialto Beach. The weather today shows us the greatest possible contrast to the postcard-like evening before. But somehow that also has its charm on the rough coast, shaped by wind and weather. We walk along the beach next to the numerous driftwood tree trunks and see ourselves fed up with the white spray crowns of the waves. Every now and then a pelican hovers just above the water. Here, too, the beach is adorned with rocks, which stand out in the surf and make a wonderful picture.

Then we drive to Forks. The nest has benefited from Twilight tourism lately. The saga takes place in the location and was also filmed here, so die-hard fans can take a look around the original locations. To my relief, Niki just wants a souvenir photo in front of the main actress Bella's pickup truck. Then we go to the mall and treat ourselves to a coffee. After this stopover we drive into the valley of the Hoh Rain Forest, probably the most magnificent rain forest area in the park. The road through the dense, almost tunnel-like forest is another highlight. Once there, we find a wonderful place to camp.

  1. Memories come back, exactly 40 years ago we drove this route, visited the Olympic National Park, etc. Keep it up, best regards!
