Getty Museum and Griffith Park

  • Visit to the Getty Museum
  • Fight through the traffic chaos of the city on up to 10-lane motorways
  • Hollywood Sign from a closer look
  • Visit Griffith Park and Observatory including a view of the city
  • Eat at the Stinky Rose garlic restaurant
  • Evening drive to Anaheim

This morning we drive to the lauded Getty Museum. In order to avoid the morning rush hour, we only set off a little later, but it keeps getting stuck. The new building of the financially strong foundation offers the gigantic Getty art collection a new home. Entry is free, but the parking garage costs $ 15. Somehow neither the building nor the collection, despite the beautiful location and impressive gardens, really inspires us.

Now we're going back to Hollywood. Niki found a tip on the Internet with a particularly good view of the world-famous Hollywood sign. The drive through the living quarters of the better-off ends at a parking lot. Here we are almost to ourselves and pretty close. A hiking trail would even lead to the letters. However, these are fenced in and have been closely guarded by the police for several years. A local tells us that he still climbed letters in his youth, unthinkable today. A little further on, more tourists can be seen, and the view of the landmark is even better.2014_10_16_2

The journey continues to the Griffith Observatory in the park of the same name. The view over the city to the Pacific is worth this detour alone. Inside, the universe is explained and illustrated in an interesting way.

A special restaurant is on the program for tonight. The Stinky Rose is all about garlic. Even Niki's ice cream for dessert has a garlic aroma that takes getting used to. Since we want to be at Disneyland tomorrow morning, we have booked an overnight stay at a motel in Anaheim. So we're going there now.
