Childhood Dreams Disneyland & NHL

  • Full day visit to Disneyland in Anaheim
  • Immerse yourself in the world of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Indiana Jones and many other Disney characters
  • In the evening to the NHL home opener of the Anaheim Ducks against the Minnesota Wild

What an eventful day is waiting for us today. We get up at 7 a.m., take a shower, have breakfast and drive off towards Disneyland - the dream of every child and child-at-heart. Here, too, the entrance fees of CHF 96 per head are not exactly a walk in the park, but you almost have to see that. A whopping 17 dollar parking fee is added, then the Disney tram drives us to the park entrance. Thanks to the pre-purchased tickets, we are spared queuing and we can have fun. After the entrance street with many shops, we march straight into the Adventureland, one of the different themed corners of the park. A wild train ride through the Wild West, a leisurely boat tour through the lovingly designed jungle, a jeep drive through the Indiana Jones Temple and a glimpse into Tarzan's tree house await us. Next up is the somewhat bland Pirates of the Caribbean boat trip and the idyllic New Orleans quarter. We both get really wet on the wild water ride on the Mountain Splash. Since it is mostly cloudy, it is only moderately pleasant.

We stop for lunch before we continue with the toddler ride through the world of Winnie-the-Poo. We continue our tour through the fairy tale world to Tomorrowland. Here you can find tracks on topics such as Star Wars, Toy Story, Utopia and a fast-paced horror roller coaster, which by far does not achieve the charm of the morning. Last but not least, we pay a visit to the classic Disney characters in the Toontown area. Posing together with the famous characters in a photo is of course the big highlight for every child! After the queues in the morning were still within pleasant limits, it is now a bit time-consuming in the afternoon. With the large lanes you can queue for more than 30 minutes. I don't even want to imagine how it goes here in the high season. So we have to skip a few lanes, but that's not a problem. In the afternoon we can also watch the move with all the familiar characters.

Around 5 p.m. it is time to leave the premises and drive the few minutes over to the Honda Center. For me, a long-cherished wish comes true here. A few days ago we bought tickets online for the Anaheim Ducks' NHL game against the Minnesota Wild. After a little difficulty entering - I had unfortunately forgotten my Swiss army knife in my jeans - we enter the access ring around the arena, which is overcrowded with fast food stands. It is obvious how food, drink and fan articles can be bought at exorbitant prices (beer from 8.50 to 12.50) on every corner. Our seats for just under $ 50 per ticket are in the second row from the third and top floor. From up here we have a good, albeit distant, view of the ice field.

In particular, it is the ambitious Ducks' first home game of the season. The team has been reinforced and is considered one of the big title contenders. But the guest from Minnesota also has ambitions, which makes for an attractive pairing. The stadium is accordingly well-filled with over 17,300 spectators. Unlike in Bern, there are all seats here, which makes the stadium even higher.

After a trip, show elements and the US national anthem sung live, we can start. An attractive game between two even teams develops. In addition to the smaller error rate, and above all the omnipresent show elements are striking. The guests from Minnesota do not take an undeserved lead at the beginning of the second section - after a goalless start third. "Go Ducks go" is occasionally echoed through the wide oval of the arena, otherwise it is mostly quiet next to the music. The game still have the clearer chances, but cannot convert them into a greater advantage. Even the only Swiss Dino Niederreiter fails at the opposing goalkeeper. In the final third, the ducks manage to turn around thanks to two counterattacks and the atmosphere in the stadium is at times really good.

For us it is then only a short drive back to Motel6, where we quickly fall asleep after all this experience.
