Bike tour to Sausalito

  • Drive over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito with a rented mountain bike
  • Stop for lunch in Sausalito
  • Enjoy the viewpoint of the bay, city and bridge
  • Walk to winding Lombard Street
  • Dinner in San Francisco and on across the Bay to Oakland, Hayward

After we were put off by the hotel again and again for the next day, this morning it is fully booked to our displeasure. But the night was anything but pleasant. I'm allergic to something, it itches unbelievably and first think of a fruit juice from the night before. When Niki got a rash later in the day, we realized that there were hundreds of Bed bugs-Stitches must act.

So the departure from the motel is just right for us and we decide to drive on in the evening. For now we are renting for 20 $ all day Mountain bike. We drive along the coast of the bay in bright sunshine towards the Golden Gate Bridge. More and more clouds and fog swirls tower over the city's rust-red landmark and symbol of the American way of life. These now increasingly press inland and so the bridge disappears visibly in a coat of gray. We drive first to the one at the foot of the bridge Fort Point. Then we cross the busy bridge before we go down on the other side Sausalito let go.

In the posh suburb with many restaurants, pubs and yachts, we take a break and have a delicious, albeit expensive, bite with a Mexican. Then we sit in Starbucks use the internet and sip a frappe. Strengthened, we start the strenuous ascent up to the bridge.

There we go a little further up into the Marine Headlands State Park. There we are rewarded with one of the best views over the bridge and now the city behind. In the meantime the clouds have been pushed back out to sea, which creates a special atmosphere.

Then it is time to return. There is an extremely strong wind, which makes cycling a real challenge. Through the Presidio Park go back to them Lombard Streetwhere we can return our bike. We march on to the steepest part of Lombard Street. The winding down street is one of the top photo subjects in the city. Unfortunately, it's already getting dark, but at least we've seen the place after all. There is still a lot to see. But considering that we might come to San Francisco again, we will travel on. On the way back we will eat Taco Bell. So we tried another fast food chain and found it to be surprisingly good. Back at the motel because of the bed bugs complained and we get at least a third of the money back after a long discussion. An impudence!

About the partly two-story Bay Bridge we leave San Francisco and arrive in the neighboring city of Oakland. We continue on the freeway until we arrive in Hayward, where we will spend the night in the Super8 chain motel.
