The Falls of the Columbia River George

  • Hike from Horsetail Falls to Oneonta Falls
  • See impressive Multnomah Falls
  • See Latourell Falls and Wahkenna Falls
  • Shopping stop at Westfield Mall in Vancouver (Washington)
  • Continue to Woodland

After a simple breakfast at the Travelodge, we drive the short distance into the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area. The area is known for its numerous impressive waterfalls and the beautiful rainforest. We'll see you Horsetail Falls and then start to a Hike to the smaller Oneonta Falls. The path leads steeply up through the late autumn forest, which shows itself in its full splendor of colors. The dense cloud cover and occasional rain can hardly spoil the beauty of nature. The river is currently carrying too much water to make the hike into the photogenic Oneonta Gorge.

A little further we stop at the impressive double waterfall Multnomah If. At 189 m, these are the second highest permanently water-bearing falls in the USA. A short way over the first smaller case, which makes a great photo opportunity. Unfortunately, we missed filling the tank again in the morning and gas stations are in short supply here in the region. So that we don't get stuck, we're going back a little to fix this problem. The route on the original Highway No. 3 there is really worth seeing. Then we go back and make a stop at the beautiful Latourell Falls and the Wahkenna Falls a. Then we drive off towards Seattle.

With the crossing of the enormous Columbia River we have left Oregon behind us and are back in Washington. There we make a stop in the medium-sized city of Vancouver (actually with the same name as the Canadian metropolis not far north) Westfield Mall a. Soon afterwards we find another Motel6 in Woodland for the night.
