Christmas Eve in Argentine in Iguazu

  • Walk along Circuit Inferior and see the Iguazu Falls from below
  • Attacked by coatis
  • Delicious Argentinian Parrillada dining

After further changing money and buying a bus ticket for tomorrow's onward journey, we take the bus to the National park. Thanks to the ticket registered yesterday, we can visit the park today half price to enter. Again a whole crowd of the cute, but awaits us cheeky coatis. The young animals playing around are a real highlight. But be careful, the omnivores harass tourists and sometimes snatch something edible away, have become a real nuisance.

Today we march the somewhat longer and more strenuous one Circuit inferior along. The path leads to below the falls several great viewpoints. The wonderfully cooling one spray is not only a welcome cooling off for us on this sunny, hot day. A wide variety of plants are also used as an elixir of life.

Wild orchids, brommelias and ferns grow in the trees, creating a real wonder forest. Along the way we meet monitor lizards, giant ants with a golden abdomen, an impressive praying mantis and of course butterflies in various colors and shapes.

The path leads close towards the thundering San Martin Falls, the second largest in the park after the towering Garganta del Diablo. Here is once again a breathtaking view of this paradise of foaming water columns and lush green tropical gardens. Even though Niki and I are on the falls for the third time, everything is still just as fascinating. This place truly belongs to the «New 7 Wonders».

When we want to treat ourselves to an ice cream at the kiosk, we too will surrounded by the Cuatis. The whole thing becomes too much for Niki and wants to toss her orange juice to Urs. The juice lands on the ground and is greedily devoured by a coati.

We take the bus back to the center of Puerto Iguazu, where we have an aperitif. Our Quilmes beer comes in a 1 liter bottle and is kept cool by the ice water bucket, just like our champagne. A little further we find one typical Argentine parrillada, where is what? Of course meat and that in abundance as well as delicious Malbec. Bon appetit!
