Where the condor circles

  • Drive with private driver to Parque Nacional Quebrada del Condorito
  • Four-hour hike on the barren high plateau to the Balcon Norte and back
  • Several impressive condors circle over the gorge

Today too we start early to be ready for our trip to the Parque Nacional Quebrada del Condorito. We are picked up at the door by Miguel Angel, our 70-year-old driver, at exactly 8:30 a.m. The talkative - of course only Spanish-speaking - retiree improves his modest pension with occasional assignments.

Soon after we are out of town, the road gradually begins to climb in the direction of Sierra de Cordoba, Forerunner of the mighty Andes. In the meantime we stop in a cafe, where we can enjoy a first grandiose view. After almost two hours we arrive at the national park center and receive information about the planned one Hike.

For two hours we hike fairly flat on the relatively barren high plateau at a height of over 2000 meters above sea level. After the initial raindrops, it becomes increasingly sunnier. Pink thistles bloom and stand between sturdy blades of grass. Here too should Cougars live and in fact we find a solution which most likely comes from the big cat. Then we reach that Balcon Norte and soon see the reason for our origins in the distance: Majestic condors circling in the rising thermals over the gorge! We have a well-deserved picnic stop and are watched by smaller birds in the hope that something will jump off. Suddenly it floats most powerful airborne bird in the world with a Wingspan of over 3 meters right over us. A truly impressive sight.

On the way back we meet a group of locals who want to spend the night on the campground, otherwise there isn't much going on here. Miguel Angel is already waiting back at the Visitors Center.

After another drink stop on the way back, we are back in Cordoba arrived. Freshly showered, we march into the center, where after another change of money we find a delicious restaurant accompanied by delicious Argentine wine.
