- Excursion to Calbuco
- Boat tour through the bay with sighting of pelicans, sea lions, black-necked swans and other sea birds
- Return and return the car in Puerto Montt
- Evening flight to Punta Arenas
Unfortunately, as yesterday evening, we realized that the excursion planned for today to the Pinguinera Isloto de Punihuil off the island of Chiloé is too ambitious. But also from the mainland, near Calbuco, according to the travel guide, numerous sea creatures, including individual penguins, should be seen.
So we drive after in a fully packed car Puerto Montt to get some more money and explore the local fish, fruit and souvenir market. The range includes roughly the usual knitwear made from warm alpaca and sheep's wool, leather and wood products and much more. We buy some homemade chocolates and enjoy them straight away.
We continue on the slower coastal road Calbuco. The colorful wooden huts of the coastal town with many Mapuche Indians give us a little insight into life on the Chiloé archipelago. We find a fisherman who An hour's boat tour for less than 20 francs undertakes with us. We chug out into the bay in a small wooden boat.
Soon to be flying Pelicans in formation past us. The buoys of a crab farm prove to be like for sea birds Cormorants and various species of seagulls and lounging sea lions.
At the end we see a whole group Black neck swans. Then the trip comes to an end without Magellanic penguins to have seen. Well not too bad, after all, we should be able to make up for what we have missed in the next few days. Otherwise, the excursion was better than expected, if not comparable to what you might get to see from Chiloé.
Back in the port, the cloud cover continues to rise, so that we get to see the volcanoes Osorno, Calbuco and Hornopirén one last time. In a harbor restaurant we eat - well, what - fish.
Then we drive back to via Panamericana Puerto Montt. To bridge the rest of the time, we visit another one Handicraft marketwhere more souvenirs can be bought. Next door in a nice cafe there is coffee and cake before we drive out to the airport. Niki and I take care of the luggage while Mam and Pap return the car and then come after.
After a 2 hour flight with SkyAirline to Punta Arenas we land there at exactly midnight. We take a speeding taxi to the pre-booked Samarce House in the city center, a simple bed and breakfast.
