- Planning the next week
- Stroll through the windy center
- Visit to the unique Cementerio Municipal
- One more time to the hairdresser
After arriving late at night in the deep south of Patagonia, breakfast is a little later. Now there is a lot to organize. A rental car for the next week, as well as a day tour to the King Penguins on Tierra del Fuego. Thanks to our extremely helpful host, everything is organized quickly and easily. We spend the rest of the wet morning hours writing diaries while Mum and Dad book flights and hotels for Buenos Aires.
Around noon we start walking to the nearby center of the over 100,000 inhabitants counting city. This makes Punta Arenas the most popular in the world southernmost city of this size. Modern buildings shape the cityscape. At the Tourist information office let's get more information about Patagonia. The streets are lined with trimmed cypress trees, otherwise there are - once again - many street dogs loitering around to see. There are drinks and cakes in a cafe before we stroll along the windy beach and watch the numerous sea birds. So cool It hasn't been for a long time, at least we're happy to have the jacket.
The next stop is that Cementerio Municipal Cemetery, which is one of the most worth seeing in all of Latin America. Family graves of influential families surpass each other in splendor, while the new graves look like lockers with a lot of kitsch.
The cemetery is divided by manicured cypress avenues. One of the street dogs is our loyal companion for a long time.
When we were at one hair stylist march past, Niki spontaneously sends me one more time to have my hair cut. We take a quick look at some shops such as Outdoor-Outfitter and buy food supplies for tomorrow's full-day trip. Since no normal restaurant is open until 8 a.m., we eat soup and sandwiches in a cafe.
