Deeper into the Quebrada de Humahuaca

  • Continue north on Routa 9 to Humahuaca
  • Visit to the cozy village
  • Try the local specialty humita

Again a picture of the truly colorful Cerro de los Siete Colores do. Then we continue northwards. Layers of rock in the most varied of colors, cacti, some - mostly indigenous - villages adorn the landscape along the Rio Grandes. At Tilcara they are Remains of the Inca fortress El Pucarà on the hill.

In Humahuaca when we arrive we park our car and explore the historic center on foot. Shape here too traditional adobe houses the village. At the Plaza Gòmez, surrounded by the historic church, bank, cabilito and the propose Monumento a la Independencia have numerous Quechua women their stands. The creative souvenirs with Indian patterns make the area a real shopping paradise. The stomach growls and so we try a local specialty: Humita. Sweet corn porridge with cheese rolled in a corn leaf and heated. In any case, it tastes delicious and is just right for my stressed stomach. Otherwise, Humahuaca is not quite as pretty as Purmamarca.

Unfortunately, finding information in English is not that easy. Unfortunately there is no longer enough time to visit the impressive rock formations at the 4340 m high Mirador del Hornocal or further north the Espinoza del Diablo.

So we make our way back where we are at Maymara have a wonderful view of another special fault from the kitschy-looking cemetery on the hill.

Now comes the long return trip to green Salta, where we return the car in the evening. Now there would be perfect time to get our package to the post office. But it has closed again because of a public holiday (yes, they really seem to have a lot to celebrate here). The three days were a wonderful foretaste of the following northern Chile and Bolivia. Although you could spend a lot more time in the diverse region Dinner, buy sunscreen with the remaining Argentine pesos and then update our blogs in the hostel, that is the rest of the evening's program.
