Medellin - once the most dangerous city in the world

  • Onward journey via Pereira to Medellin
  • Explore the ultra-chic El Poblano district

Our minibus leaves Salento shortly before 8 a.m. Direction Pereira. Mostly tourists are on board, but there are also some locals. After an hour and a quarter we reach Pereira, where we go directly Bus tickets to Medellin buy and 15 minutes later you can start.

During the winding drive through the fertile highlands, blogs are written, read and pictures are sorted out as always. The journey takes a long time until we finally arrive at around 3 p.m. infamous Medellin arrive. The formerly most dangerous city in the world has had one in recent years amazing change experienced. The economy is booming, there is building everywhere and everything is wonderfully green and clean. At least in the district El Poblanowhere we set up camp. A stark contrast to its big rival Bogota.

We march through the district looking for a map of the city and finally end up in the heart of El Poblano. Lined up here chic bars, restaurants and clubs to fine boutiques and some hostels. Niki buys some small souvenirs and in a hostel we find something with a map and tour offers for tomorrow. We register for a Pablo Escobar tour in the exquisite Grand Buddha Boutique Hostel. Then there is a concentrated load of cheese and dried meat, as well as a sandwich and a glass of red wine.
