  • Enjoy the splendor of colors at the Morning Glory Pool and the Grand Prismatic Spring
  • Burger and campfire

When Reto and I wake up at half past eight, Gixu has already packed up the tent. We drive to Schwabacher Road again, unpack the camping chairs again and enjoy the morning atmosphere in front of the unique Teton mountain range. The mountains are wonderfully reflected in the lake dammed by beavers. Unfortunately, apart from a few ducks and a beaver, no animals can be seen.

We drive north towards Yellowstone National Park. At Colters Bay Store we buy the necessary groceries for the next two days. We also buy a large refractory pot to be able to cook large portions directly on the fire. At a rest area we have a leisurely breakfast before we leave the Grand Teton National Park. It goes straight on with the Rockefellar Parkway and the Yellowstone National Park. The pass, which was still heavily snowed a month ago, now shows only isolated remnants of snow. We stop at waterfalls before we stay at the Grand Village Campground for one night.

An urgent shower later we set off towards Thunderhole Valley. The route leads for a long time through the dense coniferous forest over the Continental Divide. Finally we arrive at the heavily frequented Old Faithful. Although there is an immense number of parking spaces available, almost all of them are full. We're a few moments late to see the Old Faithful in action. So we first walk along the way to other sights of the Upper Geysir Basin. At the colorful Morningglory Pool, we turn around in order to be in time for the next eruption of the highest geyser in the world. Unfortunately, the cloud of steam blows exactly in our direction. After this spectacle of nature we drive a little further towards Madison Junction. From a great distance we see some bison, otherwise the animals are rare. We drive down Firehole Lake Drive where more hot springs can be admired before we turn back. Back at the Grand Village Campground we want to prepare our dinner, but the weather throws us a spanner in the works. Thick storm clouds are gathering and lightning and rain begin. We retreat into the car and watch out for dry weather. That won't be too long in coming. Reto spices our homemade burgers, I knead the meat cardboard and shape burgers while Gixu takes care of the necessary embers. Cucumber, relish, ketchup, tomatoes, onions, cheese and mustard perfect our burger. What a treat. Then we make ourselves comfortable around the fire.
