Start of the big trip to Vancouver

  • Have the second rear tire replaced
  • Update blog
  • Drive quickly back to Whitehorse
  • Bald eagles and beavers seen

I wake up at 8 a.m. and have breakfast in light sunshine. Unfortunately, I can't have the second rear tire changed until 11 a.m. So I finally use the time to update the blog again and upload some of my best recordings. I say goodbye to Simon and wait until my car is roadworthy again. Unfortunately, the radio has stopped working since yesterday. Will probably be a fuse that needs to be replaced.

At 2 p.m. I finally leave for Whitehorse. After all, in 8 days I have to be in Vancouver, 2930 kilometers away, to pick up Niki. I know the North Klondike Highway pretty well by now and it's not exactly the most beautiful route. You just have to watch out for the treacherous potholes and bumps that the relatively narrow route has. In the past few weeks the leaves have also become more discolored here on the highway. Once again the yellow deciduous trees are wonderful to look at. At the roadside I discover a bald eagle, which is doing kindly to the remains of a street victim. After almost 6 hours of driving, I reach Whitehorse around 8 o'clock in the evening. The capital is actually the only settlement in the entire Yukon that has earned the name of a city. After all, they live in the entire territory, which is, mind you, larger than Germany, just 34,000 inhabitants.

I'm going to Mountain Ridge Motel again and I'm allowed to stay there for free. I warm myself up leftovers and take a shower. Actually, I wanted to go into town for a beer first, but I reject that because of the time. I'm still surfing and reading.
