Direction Minas Gerais

  • Buy a bus ticket and food
  • Try acai and cupuacu desserts
  • pack things
  • Bus ride back to Rio de Janeiro
  • The night bus to Ouro Preto is fully booked so the detour via Belo Horizonte

Today the journey continues after a few leisurely days in the beautiful Paraty. Since our only connection from Rio to Ouro Preto is the night bus, we still have enough time to use the day. We sleep in, have an extensive breakfast, as always, and talk to Sabrina and Gilson. I discover that something may be wrong with the prints on my Travelcash card. Because I was definitely not in Fort Lauderdale, and certainly not this morning. So have your card blocked immediately. Fortunately, we still have enough alternatives to withdrawing money from us.

Then we march one last time to the Paratys business center to buy tickets for the subsequent bus journey, to stock up on cash, to buy snacks and to eat something. Niki enjoys hers Acai dessertwhile I try something new: Cupuacu is a closely related fruit of the cocoa tree that is completely unknown to us. The white, creamy, almost ice cream-like mass has a slightly sour taste, extremely tasty!

Hop in the shower for a moment and we'll soon have to pack our things. We'll be from Sabrina and Gilson to the Bus station drove, one last nice touch. Then it is time to say goodbye to both of them. For the second time, we had a very lucky hand when choosing our accommodation.

After four and a half hours we finally have the Rio de Janeiro bus station reached. Here we are now looking for the ticket office of the bus company Util, which offers a night bus to Ouro Preto. When we finally found the switch in the jumble, we found that the Bus already booked out is. So an alternative has to be found quickly, which turns out to be a real problem without knowledge of Portuguese. In a few minutes a bus goes to Belo Horizonte, from where there are more frequent connections. Inadequate signaling makes that more difficult, but we just manage to get to the departure point on time.

In another state-of-the-art bus with comfortable seats, which are far more comfortable and flexible than, for example, in airplanes, we are now traveling via Petropolis Belo Horizontewhere we will arrive after a 7 hour bus ride.
