- Detour to the exotic fish market of Valdivia
- Sea lions and all kinds of birds beat their bellies on the remains
- Return to Puerto Varas
We have breakfast in our little house and pack our things. Then it's time to go. For once, heaven is today very cloudy and the surrounding volcanoes cannot be made out this morning.
We drive via Loncoche after a short stretch of motorway Valdivia opposite. Unfortunately, there is intensive work on the road here, so that we are only making very tentative progress because of the numerous construction sites.
After a bit of searching, we find a parking space in the busy city center and march to the nearby fish market Mercado Fluvial. All sorts of fresh produce from the sea are offered here, such as hake, farmed salmon, oysters and a wide variety of mussels. Immediately afterwards the fish are filleted and the remains are thrown towards the mouth of the river, what numerous species of birds and huge sea lions attracts. Otherwise all kinds of fruits are for sale, from Strawberries the size of small apples to blueberries that are almost reminiscent of cherries.
We walk along the pier and visit several Craft stores. One or the other souvenir bargain is also made. So we both buy one extremely warm alpaca sweaterthat we can give home to my parents.
In a nearby restaurant there is fish again, for me again the delicious one Ceviche. For dessert we buy a wide variety of fruits at the market. Otherwise the city is not very attractive and we continue to return to Puerto Varas. Now it is starting to rain slightly, for the first time in what felt like an eternity!
Again, some people are standing on the roadside to rent a house or apartment. We'll find what we are looking for with an older lady and can spend the night in her house cheaply. It even seems to us as if the family rents out their own house in the summer months and lives in the garage during this time.
We take the car to the center and after some search find a parking space. Then march to a restaurant. On the shores of Lake Llanquihue there is a small market with many pretty handicrafts. Here Mam finally finds the simple one she wants Lapis Lazuli Stud Earrings. The bright blue semi-precious stone is a typical Chilean souvenir. Again it is late when we go to bed after a stop at the supermarket.
