Start of two-day trekking on Fitz Roy

  • Pick up camping material from the landlord
  • With bag and bag 3 hours hike to the Poincenot campground
  • Set up camp
  • Cooking simple dinner on the gas stove
  • Happily final ascent to the Laguna de los Tres

Before the upcoming exertions, sleep until 9 a.m. We'll get it right before breakfast Material at the equipment rental from. With the exception of the meager sleeping mats, everything is of astonishing quality.

The leisurely internet connection is still used to update the blog. We march off around 2 p.m. We buy ours on the main street Food supplies and pack everything in my trekking backpack, which I also rent. Niki carries the camera, water and her sleeping bag while I carry the rest in the big backpack, which should weigh about 15 kilograms. Thanks to the good carrying system, this is bearable. Before we leave civilization behind, we have an empanada and a salad.

We slowly climb the hill again, following the same route as the day before. We'll reach the first hill with the View of the Fitz Roy massif rewarded. Along the Laguna Capri it continues over mostly flat terrain. More small lakes and ponds follow before we start at 5 p.m. Campground Poincenot to reach. We set up our tent in the shelter of the forest. At this time of year we are by far not the only ones, in the evening there should be around 25 tents.

The hiking made us hungry and so we cook mashed potatoes with peas on the gas stove. Because my pocket knife is stuck, Niki's can is opened with a herring and stone. Necessity is the mother of invention! Missing salt and spices are compensated for with a quick soup so that the stew tastes okay with delicious Parma ham.

With fresh strength we take that Final ascent towards Laguna de los Tres in attack. And it really has it all! In just over two kilometers are around 400 meters in altitude to overcome. Exposed to the wind, we climb towards the goal. The sight that presents itself to us from above is worth the effort!

Beautiful, right at the foot of the Fitz Roys is this wonderful glacial lake. However, we can't stay up there for too long, after all, we don't want to have to climb the steep descent in the dark. Quite exhausted, we reach our camp after 25 km at 9 a.m. and soon slip into our warm sleeping bags.
