77 km in three days: Trekking in El Chaltén

  • Postpone planned march up to Laguna de los Tres to noon
  • Marvel at the wonderful mountain lake again
  • Dismantle the tent and pack things
  • March back to El Chaltén

When the alarm goes off at 4:30 in the morning, I suspect something is bad. Light rain gets from something ice rain interrupted, it winds strongly and is cloudy. Not really the conditions that I would have hoped for or that would be suitable for climbing the trail up to the Laguna de los Tres again.

We decide to lie down again for a good 1.5 hours because Sunrise from campground watch out. As expected, this is not particularly spectacular, the wonderful dawn only hits the hill in front of the Fitz Roy massif, the mountains themselves are covered with clouds. Again we lie down on the uncomfortable mattress.

After breakfast we read something and hope that the sun will shine Clouds around the mountains able to clear something. To then go up again to the wonderful mountain lake. Around 11 a.m. ours will be Wait slowly rewarded and we decide to take on the effort again. Quite exhausted, we reach our destination an hour later. Although the clouds have increasingly cleared, a swath remains just before the summit of Fitz Roys.

That shines with the sun behind you Turquoise of the Laguna even more intense. While Niki is reading something, I do my photo tour. Increasingly, the Patagonian wind, yes you really have to brace yourself to avoid being blown over! So we set off on the no less strenuous descent to our camp, where that Dismantling the tent waiting for us.

After all, the food supplies decreased a bit overnight, but the backpack still didn't get light. So you go back towards the valley. Unfortunately, we get on the wrong path, which I still notice after a while. The additional kilometers cost strength, which we both no longer have in abundance anyway. The last, albeit mostly flat, kilometers towards El Chaltén are a real challenge. No wonder, after all, we did when we arrived in the village over 30 kilometers today and even 77 kilometers in the last three days in the legs.

Bring the material back to the landlord for a moment, go to eat a generous plate of pasta and then go to the long-awaited bed.
