Every border crossing offers new surprises

  • By bus across the border to Puno, Peru
  • Buses paid for staying too long in Bolivia
  • Plan next weeks
  • Niki's finger ring stolen from her hand
  • Walking tour of the city center and markets of Puno

Our bus leaves at 9 a.m. Towards Puno, Peru. After only 10 minutes, the limit is reached where we can half a hour Have time to arrange the Bolivian departure and the subsequent entry to Peru. As we upon entry no green slip we should go back to La Paz for this one! With a little Bolivianos, the first problem is solved, because suddenly finds the customs officer still green pieces of paper to fill out! Then another officer also notes that we instead of - loudly illegible stamp - Permissible 30 days were 42 days in Bolivia. So we are forced to change one of our reserve dollar bills due fine to pay. Well again Apprenticeship paid!

Anyway, we're sitting just in time in our bus and it goes along the west side of Lake Titicaca to Puno. We arrive there shortly after 11 a.m., buy our bus ticket to Cusco and take a taxi to the hotel in the city center.

After reading a lot about the next travel destinations during the bus trip, we are planning something for the next few weeks, with Cusco, Pisac and, above all, Machu Picchu, further highlights of our trip await. For tomorrow we book the boat tour to the floating islands of the Uros and Taquile.

At wet and cold rainy weather by 10 degrees - yes, that is the Altiplano summer - we march through the city. We'll see you Plaza de Armas main square with the baroque cathedral, where there are also numerous souvenir shops. Suddenly Niki notices that you Freshly bought 2-franc copper ring is missing. Now she is also aware of why a man seemed to have pushed her hand away. Fortunately not a great loss, but so it is Be careful!

With one of the funny mototaxis ala Asian tuck tucks we drive to the Mercado Artesanal down at the harbor. But notice there that this is only under construction. Again with a mototaxi we drive towards the center, where we meet at Mercado Bellavista let go. We stroll through the numerous stalls and get an idea of the Peruvian price level, which is a bit above the low Bolivian prices. Then march on to the smaller one Mercado Central. Here we drink a fruit juice before we look at the street stalls in the area. Niki buys some salty cheese while next door Sheep heads available for purchase. Use a small ax to split them in two. Yes, everything is still recycled here!

Then we already agreed to dinner with Maayan and Yotam. The two were in the rain on Uros in the afternoon and also brought a Brazilian couple with them.
