At dusk we see a couple on the river bank Forest storks. Just in time for sunrise we reach the small island, which is part of a branch of the Tambopata river is surrounded. We dock here and walk a short distance to the lookout point. The first main actors come flying over our heads: Different parrot species, yes especially macaws.

Wonderful macaws
Colorful Scarlet macaws, green-winged macaws, yellow-breasted macaws hover overhead, croaking loudly. Many settle down on the opposite side of the tributary of the river and we can bring them through with us Telescope, Binoculars or the camera. Some small parrots are already eating mineral-rich ones Clay employed. The minerals ingested as a result are required by the birds in order to be able to better digest all the toxins from the plants and fruits that they eat.

We wait, take pictures and hope that their larger relatives will soon do the same. In between you can also sit under all the parrots Toucan look. When a bigger swarm leaves the place we go back to the boat to have breakfast. Wait a bit more comfortably on a full stomach! The few other tourist groups present soon give up, after all, the tropical sun is already burning violently from the sky.

We continue to wait, but after most of the birds present leave, we also give up. But even without having seen the macaws eating clay, it was a great experience. Further upstream at the Tambopata Wildlife Center you can even find the world's largest collection of animals. However, after the scientists have caught numerous of the birds and provided them with transmitters, the parrots now seem to avoid the place!

A little further, Jorge can do a huge one Tarantula lure them out of their cave with a branch. Back at the lodge we watch the sunset and have a delicious meal. Go to bed early.
