Back in Puerto Maldonado

  • Morning boat tour on Lake Sandoval
  • Return to Puerto Maldonado

What was announced in the last few days has now arrived. Niki is sick and vomited half the night. So she stays there while Jorge and I do another Paddle excursion on the Lago Sandoval do. We start right on time for sunrise.

In addition to various water birds such as herons, cormorants, ibises and the omnipresent hoatzins, not much is happening. Twice we shy away from a somewhat stately one 3 meter caiman on. The cloudy weather is not ideal to see the otters. They like it sunny, says Jorge.

Breakfast is back at the lodge. Then we discover some Squirrel monkey and then it's on the way back. Not too much happened during this crossing either. Then the strenuous march through the swampy path back to the Rio Madre de Dios, what Niki a real agony is. We meet on the way turn to a group of squirrel monkeyswhich is evident through human presence at all don't feel bothered.

Back in Puerto Maldonado we look for one Hostelto get Niki at least one night recreation to give. Here we also say goodbye to Jorge, with whom we had a wonderful time. The area around his lodge is probably not as untouched as it is further up the river or in the Madidi National Park. In the center, we eat our meals and bring our dirty things to the laundry before we rest.
