The largest island in the archipelago: Isabela

  • Shore excursion on the volcanic Las Tintoreras Islands
  • Disappointing snorkeling in tidal bay in Puerto Villamil harbor
  • Short island tour with another turtle hatchery and pink flamingos in a lagoon
  • Volleyball and swimming on the wonderful sandy beach
  • Night trip to the island of Rabida

We should actually start right away with a tour of the Las Tintoreras Islands. But one strong thunderstorm leads to a change in the program, so for the first time there is an extensive breakfast.

Fortunately for us, the weather is getting better in the meantime. So we start with a light drizzle and a little delay for the excursion. We explore the black lava rock and discover numerous Marine iguanas and the omnipresent red cliff crabs.

One group of sea lions is resting and different ones Darwin finch species are to be observed. The lava crevices, a popular place to stay for white tip sharks, are unfortunately currently uninhabited. Instead we see some Galapagos penguins on the way back to Darwin.

Then we go ashore on the Isabela Islandwhere, insanely, another $ 5 entry fee is due. In the harbor basin we can do a big underwater Eagle rays turn off.

After a short Walk through the mangroves we reach a bay where finally one more time snorkeled becomes.

Unfortunately, the place doesn't turn out to be particularly attractive. Numerous reef fish can be seen, but more or less all of a handful of species. In addition, the visibility in the troubled water is only moderate. At least I discover in a side channel two imposing male marine iguanas and a heron fishing. A little disappointed, we go back to the boat to eat.

After a long lunch break we go back to shore. We visit a lagoon where there are numerous Pink flamingos stop before another Visit to the local giant tortoise rearing center pending. On the island of Isabela alone, by far the largest in the archipelago, there are five different species of Galapagos giant tortoise.

Since we already visited this yesterday, it all only half as interesting. We would all have preferred to snorkel again, but the program somehow leaves no flexibility. We then have a fabulous 3 hours to look around the village and see the beautiful sandy beach to enjoy. Not bad, but you don't have to go on an expensive boat trip! So let's have a Coco Loco, try our hand at Volleyball on the beach and go to cool off in the waves of the Pacific.

After dinner jass we do a lap with Tobi and Nina before the drive north to the island of Rabida begins.
