Panama City - The trip is drawing to a close

  • Morning flight back to Panama City
  • Explore the old town of Casco Viejo
  • Afternoon shopping in the Multiplaza Pacifico Mall

Much too early after a small breakfast that is manageable Bocas Airport. At 7:40 a.m. our plane takes off for the almost 90-minute flight back to Panama City. The taxi drivers here in Panama City are really the last! First of all, despite the hotel name and address, they never know where you want to go and if you show them on the map, they still don't know how to get there. To this end, the attempt is made to cheat the gringo and to a degree that equates to a real cheek and we have never experienced it on this trip. Finally we find a halfway sensible driver who chauffeurs us to the hotel. As a regular booker through Hotels.com we have another one Free night benefit, which is why we chose a slightly more upscale hotel for the last two nights.

After the luggage has been deposited, we take a taxi to the Casco Viejo, the beautiful old town of Panama City. We start with Plaza de la Independenica and stroll through the alleys, where there is a lot of building and renovation going on. The many colored buildings are really worth seeing, but do not come close to the splendor of Cartagena.

After the original Panama Viejo from the English privateer Henry Morgan in 1671 was destroyed, the Spaniards began to rebuild the city here on the protected peninsula. In the cozy, wonderfully green Plaza de Francia several souvenir stands can be found. Including on Kunas who sell their local handicrafts. From here you can even see them Puente de las Americaswhich leads in a high arch over the canal. On the other hand, our view extends over the one dominated by high-rise buildings New Town skyline.

After a salad plate, we take a taxi to the modern center of the city, where the huge Multiplaza shopping center is located. Just the place for Last minute shopping, even if the Prices not necessarily more attractive than at home are. But the choice is almost immeasurable. We eat in the food court in the evening. I skype briefly with Ädu and Steffi, who are on vacation in the American Southwest. Then it's back to the hotel soon.
