Bear pictures: My photo highlights

My best bear pics

These pictures show some of the most memorable bear encounters I've had on my travels. Master Petz, who often seems a bit clumsy, has always been a symbol of strength and has an enormous fascination for us humans. The coastal brown bears in Alaska are particularly splendid and, like salmon, grow into real giants due to the abundance of food available. The smaller grizzly bears live in the interior of the continent. With a bit of luck you can see one along the famous Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park, in the wild Yukon, Glacier National Park or the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Some of my best bear pictures have been made with two grizzly bear cubs fighting near Lake Clark National Park.

pole dancing grizzly bears in the Yukon

My most famous picture was taken in the far North of the Canadian Yukon Territory. Two grizzly bears (probably mother and almost adult cub) scratch their backs on a roadside pole. The whole scenery embedded in the amazing autumn colors of the Canadian tundra. These pictures of pole dancing bears got a lot of media coverage. In particular in the British newspapers (such as Sun, Daily Mail, The Mirror & The Times, The Telegraph), but also in the renowned National Geographic Kids Magazine, the Online Newspaper The Dodo and some other Newspaper published the story.

Other bear pictures

Other images show black bears from different areas in Canada and Alaska. This gallery also contains bear pictures from Yellowstone National Park, Denali National Park, Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, Tongass National Forest, Cassiar Highway, and from the wilderness of Glacier National Park.
