A journey through the rough, unspoilt wilderness of Canada is a dream trip for many Europeans and photographers. Canada is an overwhelming natural paradise with diverse landscapes, wild mountains and an enormous biodiversity such as grizzly bears, black bears, elks, elk, wolves, beavers, orcas, humpback whales and many more.
After the almost endless prairie rise up Calgary the wild Rocky mountains. Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise and Icefields Parkway are now extremely popular tourist magnets in the cowboy province Alberta become. But not far from there you can still find peace and quiet and wonderful wilderness with bears, moose and with a lot of luck you might even see a wolf. Crystal clear lakes, rugged mountain peaks and glaciers offer all kinds of opportunities for adventure. With the Athabasca Glacier, Moraine Lake, Maligne Canyon and many other sights, the region offers indescribably beautiful landscapes, pure nature and a multitude of wonderful photo motifs. In Calgary itself it beckons Stampede Rodeo annually attracts 1.5 million visitors and offers a gigantic show and a bombastic party.
As the westernmost province of the vast country follows British Columbia. On the huge Vancouver Island and on the coast is the largest temperate rainforest of our planet. At the southern tip of the island you feel like you're in Victorian Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, almost in England. In Tofino and Ucluelet one can explore the mystical coastal forest and Black bears watch on kayak tours. It's all about on the north coast Orcas. Of Telegraph Cove, Port Hardy and Port McNeill one can Whale watching tours Go to Alert Bay to see killer whales, dolphins, humpback whales, Steller sea lions and bald eagles.
The metropolis is also on the coast Vancouver. For many it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world with its - by Canadian standards - moderate climate.
In the interior of the province, numerous national parks offer adventure and hiking for outdoor enthusiasts. in the Wells Gray Provincial Park there are numerous impressive waterfalls to marvel at, such as the Dawson Falls, Spahats Falls and the towering ones Helmcken Falls. The area also offers good opportunities Black bears to meet. In the Rocky Mountains, the Yoho & Kootenay National Park wonderful hiking routes and turquoise blue lakes: In short, the postcard idyll of Canada and some of my photo highlights of Canada. The Alaska Highway and the Stewart-Cassiar Highway lead through the wilderness of pristine northern BC, with a detour after Steward & Hyder (Alaska) is highly recommended. At the Fish Creek Wildlife Observation Site is one of the most promising places for Bear viewing: Speak Grizzly bears watching salmon fishing.
Further north everything gets even wilder! The provincial capital Whitehorse almost feels like the last outpost of civilization. Along the Klondike Highways we continue north to the former gold rush boom town Dawson City on the Yukon River. Only the legendary gravel road of the leads even further north Dempster Highway. After only a few kilometers you can reach the Tombstone Territorial Park with a rich fauna, rugged mountain peaks and lakes. The Tombstone Valley offers Grizzly bears, Moose and Wolves an ideal living space.
After the rest house Eagle Plains at the end of the world the Dempster leads through Northwest Territories up to Inuvik. One of the most scenic sections leads through the Tundra the Richardson Mountains. Here I have the pictures the "Dancing grizzly bears" made on mine "409 days through America" trip.
Back in Dawson, the Yukon is crossed and via Top of the World Highway one reaches Alaska. Further south this is also possible via the Alaska Highway, which runs from Forest of signs in Watson Lake Coming via Whitehorse and Haines Junction leads northwest to Tok. It goes along the wilderness of the mighty Kluane National Park with its mountain giants of the Saint Elias Range such as Mount Logan and enormous glaciers. The crosses from Haines Junction Haines Highway the border in the "Panhandle Alaskas" and leads to Haines. A trip through the Yukon can of course be excellent with one Alaska trip connect.
In the east of Canada, I made a tour with colleagues through some of the most famous cities in Canada: the pretty, pretty European, francophone Quebec was our first stop. Before that we have another Whale watching Stop in Tadoussac, at the Saguenay Fjord of the St. Lawrence River. We continued via Montréal after Toronto on mighty Lake Ontario. The obligatory stop at the impressive is not allowed on any trip through the east of Canada Niagara Falls absence. One of the most famous photo subjects in the country and a guarantee for unforgettable Canada pictures.
