The metropolitan area of the capital Santiago de Chile, located at the foot of the Andes in a valley basin, is home to almost half of 18 million Chileans. The mega city is rich in history and worth seeing buildings and museums.
The coastal city Valparaíso is famous for their colorful houses and Graffiti and is also considered the cultural capital of Chile. That's how many live Artists and students in town where too Chilean national poet Pablo Neruda lived and today a museum is dedicated.
The Chilean Lake District is characterized by the moderate Valdivian rainforest, volcanoes, waterfalls, numerous national parks and of course the eponymous lakes. For example the wonderful, two-stage Salto El Léon in the Parque Nacional Villarrica with the picture book of the same nameVillarrica volcano at Pucón or that Llaima volcano in the Parque Nacional Conguillio. Biggest city in the Región de los Lagos is Puerto Montt im tribal land of the Mapuche Indians. To the north of this is the port city Valdivia. From the coastal town Calbuco facing the active Volcán Calbuco could also the known Chiloe Island could be visited.
A true dream of every landscape photographer and nature lover is the wild one Torres de Paine National Park in Patagonia. The park is characterized by the imposing Cuernos del Paine, clear, wild rivers and streams, waterfalls and wonderfully colored lakes. The park is famous for its challenging multi-day treks like the W Trek, O Circuit or the Q circuit.
The primitive Wildlife des Torres de Paine contains guanacos, caracaras, condors, rheas, and with a lot of luck you might even see a rare puma. The town is recommended as a starting point Puerto Natales or the southernmost city in the world: Punta Arenas.
On the way you can stop at Seno Otway Watching Magellanic Penguins. On the opposite Tierra del Fuego (Tierra del Fuego) at Porvenir in the Bahia Inùtil has become a colony in recent years King penguins resettled.
The small and cozy town San Pedro de Atacama Located in the middle of the Atacama Desert is an ideal base for exploring this spectacular region.
