Caribbean here we come!

  • Flight from Medellin to the coast to Santa Marta
  • Direct pick-up and transport to the hostel near the Tayrona National Park

The rucksacks are packed one more time. In Medellin a lot has been added to Niki. The worn travel clothes thrown awayto make room for the new acquisitions. We take a taxi to the far outside Medellin International Airport. Having finished the usual airport procedures, our Avianca plane leaves for Santa Marta at 11.40 a.m. The probably the newest machine I have ever flown! We're flying to Santa Marta in an hour and a quarter. On the state-of-the-art onboard entertainment system, I watch the documentation "National Geographic Photographers: The Best Job in the World".

Shortly before 1 p.m. we land on the country's Caribbean coast. Already in Medellin, which is almost 1500 meters above sea level, it was 30 degrees, here is accordingly even hotter and extremely humid to. We have and the luxury of one direct collection at the airport Granted, because otherwise we would have had an expensive taxi and a subsequent bus ride ahead of us.

It's been here for almost has not rained for two years and the landscape is accordingly dry. El Niño years are responsible for the extraordinary drought. But just imagine a few drops of rain actually falling during our drive to the hostel.

After about an hour we reach the wonderful, brand new one Hostal Monte Verde with swimming pool, tree house and beautiful tropical garden. We eat something before the rest of the afternoon at the pool spend and rest. For dinner we go to the neighboring hostel, where I get a full, grilled perch.
